The gicleé (pronounced "jeeclay") is a category of fine art often called "iris" after the original digital inkjet printer that produced the print. "Giclee" is a French term translated as "spray of ink". Each print has an intensity of color and detail and an almost photographic mirroring of the original which makes it a valued addition to the art collector. It is a new art form that has been widely accepted by museums and galleries. For this reason it is not unusual to see the words "museum quality" assigned to a limited edition iris-giclee print. Every individual giclee print is a collaboration between printer and artist.
